Our spectacle lenses

Your new lenses and frames need to match together perfectly so they’re not only practical but they look and feel great too.

At Armitage Opticians we will be pleased to guide you through our bespoke range of spectacle lenses and designer frames to make sure you’re totally happy with your choice for months and years to come.

Our range of  spectacle lenses

The simplest form of spectacle or contact lens is the single-vision lens, made to a single prescription to correct a particular eyesight issue. The thickness and weight of your lenses depends on the material used. There’s a wide range available and modern lenses are brilliantly lightweight too.

Transitions lenses

For sunny days and holidays, you might like to think about choosing some transitions lenses. These gradually dim in bright light to act as protective sunglasses then fade back to clear when you’re inside as normal. Perfect for when you’re out and about, transitions lenses mean you don’t need to carry an extra pair of sunglasses in addition to your usual ones.

We are the only optician in our local area to offer a transition lens that is also polarised. This means you can experience the very best in glare reduction and improved visual comfort.

Bifocal lenses

Bifocal lenses contain two optical corrections in one with a dividing line, so you can use the same pair of glasses for reading as you can for driving. Bifocal lenses are useful for people who have presbyopia, when the eyes become naturally more far sighted due to age.

Varifocal lenses

Varifocal lenses, also known as progressive lenses, are also used for correcting presbyopia. However, the key difference with varifocals is that there is no visible dividing line between the different corrections. Instead, the power of the lens gradually changes from one prescription to the other, helping the wearer to see clearly at all distances.

Varifocal lenses have unfairly gained a reputation for causing headaches and problems with adaptation. At Armitage Opticians we have a wide range of varifocals to suit your visual requirements and budget. With our expert knowledge and dispensing experience we have a varifocal success rate of 99%. Spectacle lens coatings

There are many spectacle lens coatings available that help reduce glare, improve comfort and protect your lenses. Please read through below to learn more about our coatings.

Reflection-free coating

Perfect for anyone who does a lot of computer work or driving at night, the anti-reflection coating removes virtually all of the distracting reflections from the lens surface. Not only that, but this type of coating can make the lenses look thinner and more streamlined.

Scratch-resistant/hard coating

Scratch-resistant hard coatings offer a toughened, durable layer on each lens which protects against scratches and damage. It’s specifically designed for modern plastic lenses which although are lighter and more stylish can also scratch very easily.

Multi-coated lenses

The Rolls-Royce of spectacle lenses, multi-coated lenses offer a fantastic combination of every coating you could need. These lenses are anti-reflection, scratch-resistant, water repellent and block UV too, so not only are they incredibly hardwearing, they’re versatile too.
